Seeking A Homeland, 2017

“If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world.”
– C.S. Lewis

Seeking A Homeland’ examines the ability of photography to be utilized as a medium for documentary and conceptual visual representations of a place. The work investigates how we connect and make sense of the natural world around us by focusing on notions of place, longing and the sublime within the landscape.

Two places are combined in one frame by overlapping the internal abstract landscape on the other. The vast natural landscapes are depicted as an empty abyss filled in with a fragment of another land. The combined image acts as a metaphorical reflection of the infinite abyss that is within us – a longing for the other world which no travel can satisfy.
